Hypertension is defined as a condition where blood pressure consistently exceeds 140/90 mmHg when a person is at rest or in a calm state. Hypertension patients often experience symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, a feeling of fullness in the head accompanied by ringing in the ears, chest tightness, palpitations, and insomnia. In addition to actively taking medication, maintaining a controlled diet, and staying physically active, individuals can also practice self-acupressure techniques in their daily routine. Now, let’s explore these methods together with Tianyi Network editors!
Self-Administered Acupoint Therapy for Hypertension
1. Facial Massage: First, rub your hands together to warm them up, then gently massage your face as if washing it. When massaging, make sure to thoroughly cover all areas of the face—about 30 times in total.
2. Smoothing the forehead: Use the pads of your index, middle, and ring fingers to gently stroke from between the eyebrows toward both sides of the forehead, about 30 times.
3. Gently massage the Yintang, Taiyang, Baihui, and Fengchi acupoints for 1 minute each.
4. Use the tips of your index, middle, ring, and little fingers to sweep from the front upper edge of the ear down toward the back lower edge on the side of the head, performing the motion continuously and lightly, about 30 times on each side.
5. Use the thenar eminence of each hand to gently stroke along the strip-like area of the sternocleidomastoid muscle beside the opposite thyroid cartilage, moving from top to bottom. Perform about 20 strokes on each side.
6. Abdominal Massage: Use the palm of your hand to gently massage the abdomen in a clockwise direction for about 5 minutes.
7. Gently massage and press the Quchi, Neiguan, Hegu, Zusanli, Sanyinjiao, Fenglong, and Taichong acupoints for 1 minute each.
8. Rub the Yongquan acupoint: Use the fleshy side of your palm to rub the Yongquan acupoint on the opposite foot, continuing until the area feels warm—about 30 times.

In addition to acupoint massage, dietary therapy for lowering blood pressure is also worth recommending.
Hypertension Recipe 1: Sweet and Sour Garlic
Ingredients: Several garlic cloves, sugar, vinegar
Instructions: Soak garlic cloves in a mixture of sugar and vinegar for at least one month. Each day, take out 6 cloves to eat, and also drink the sweet and tangy liquid they’ve been steeping in.
Hypertension Recipe 2: Hemp Oil Dressing with Celery
Ingredients: A bunch of celery, salt, sugar, hemp oil, and vinegar—each to taste
Instructions: Wash the celery thoroughly, then slice it into thin strips. Stir-fry until slightly softened, and then add Yishutang hemp oil, vinegar, and a pinch of salt and sugar. Mix well before serving. Both celery and hemp oil are known to help lower blood pressure.
Additionally, individuals with hypertension should maintain a cheerful mood in their daily lives, ensure adequate sleep, engage in regular exercise, abstain from smoking and alcohol, and follow a light, balanced diet— all of which can help manage their high blood pressure effectively.
