Rotundine Hydrochloride Tablets are the hydrochloride salt of Rotundine. It was developed by Academician Jin Guozhang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is derived from levo-tetrahydropalmatine (also known as l-tetrahydropalmatine), the primary active component extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine Corydalis yanhusuo. Academician Jin Guozhang systematically studied the pharmacological effects of Corydalis yanhusuo and confirmed that levo-tetrahydropalmatine is its main active ingredient. It acts as a dopamine (DA) receptor blocker, possessing dual effects of analgesia and sedation. This drug has been included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and pharmacology textbooks, serving as a successful example of the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.

The sleep-aiding effect of Rotundine Hydrochloride typically occurs within 15 minutes after administration, with a duration of 5 to 8 hours. Upon waking, there are no residual effects, no risk of addiction, and no dependence. At therapeutic doses, no significant adverse reactions have been observed, making it a safe and effective sleep aid.
